Cryopreservation / Vitrification

( Sperm / Egg / Embryos )

Cryopreservation / Vitrification

( Sperm / Egg / Embryos )

Cryopreservation is a process of freezing tissues or cell for future use. We have state of art cryopreservation techniques for preserving Sperms, Embryos & Oocytes.

At Orrchid Fertility Centre we make it a routine policy to cryopreserve semen samples of most of the men undergoing IVF treatment.

This is extremely helpful in the following scenario:
  • Stress and Anxiety of producing semen sample on the day of procedure
  • Husband’s unavailability due to work, travel, or stationed out
We at Orrchid Fertility Centre also offer the latest technique of Vitrification which is an advanced method of cell freezing technique for preservation of Embryos / Oocytes which allows high survival rates after thawing. Vitrification is a superior technique compared to erstwhile cryopreservation (Slow freezing) as it offer a survival rate of more than 80%.

The process of vitrification has 3 critical steps which are as follows:
  • In the first step, eggs or embryos are exposed to high concentrations of cryoprotectants to allow rapid dehydration of cells
  • In the second step, the eggs or embryos are loaded into tiny storage devices (usually straws) that will facilitate ultra-rapid cooling
  • In the third step, the straws containing the eggs / embryos are cooled as fast as possible, typically at thousands of degrees per minute
