Cryopreservation / Vitrification (Sperm, Egg & Embryo Freezing)

At Orrchid Fertility Centre, a leading IVF clinic in Mulund under the guidance of Dr. Sanjeev Khot, we understand the importance of preserving your fertility for the future. Our advanced Cryopreservation and Vitrification techniques allow men and women to safely store their sperm, eggs, or embryos for later use — offering flexibility, convenience, and peace of mind in their fertility journey.

What is Cryopreservation?

Cryopreservation is a scientific process of freezing cells or tissues at ultra-low temperatures to maintain their viability for future use. This cutting-edge technology ensures that sperm, eggs, and embryos can be stored safely without compromising their quality.

At Orrchid Fertility Centre, we routinely cryopreserve semen samples for men undergoing IVF or ICSI treatments. This practice is extremely beneficial in cases where producing a fresh semen sample on the day of the procedure may be difficult due to Stress or anxiety on the day of egg retrieval or Unavailability of the husband due to travel, work commitments, or being stationed away.

By offering advanced fertility treatment in Mulund, we ensure every patient’s IVF cycle runs smoothly and stress-free.

What is Vitrification?

Vitrification is the latest and most advanced form of cryopreservation—a rapid cell-freezing technique that provides exceptionally high survival rates after thawing. Unlike traditional slow freezing, vitrification prevents ice crystal formation, which can damage cells.

This technique is particularly useful for embryo and oocyte (egg) freezing, helping couples preserve high-quality embryos for future pregnancy attempts. Vitrification offers a survival rate exceeding 80%, making it a preferred choice for fertility preservation worldwide.

The Vitrification Process

The process involves three precise and critical steps:

  1. Dehydration: Eggs or embryos are exposed to high concentrations of cryoprotectants to remove water from the cells.

  2. Loading: The dehydrated cells are carefully loaded into small storage devices (usually thin straws).

  3. Rapid Cooling: These storage straws are then cooled ultra-rapidly—at thousands of degrees per minute—to achieve vitrification.

This rapid freezing preserves the biological integrity of the eggs or embryos, allowing them to be safely thawed and used in future IVF cycles with excellent success rates.
